Emtex P/I Output Manager & Output Enhancement 1.0 Released

Pitney Bowes' Emtex is pleased to announce the release of P/I™ Output Manager & Output Enhancement v1.0, subsequently referred to here as P/I Output Manager 1.0.  P/I Output Manager v1.0 is the next generation of Emtex' VIP and VDE output management solutions from Pitney Bowes, rebadged under the Pitney Bowes P/I (Production Intelligence) banner.  It continues providing the proven capabilities required by high volume production print and mail operations.

In addition, it introduces new capabilities in the following areas:

New P/I Look and Feel GUI

Support for AFP Object Containers

Enhanced Outline Font support

A range of Colour Management capabilities (including named Pantone support)

Unicode support

Compatibility with 64-bit hardware

Support for Virtualization

In addition to the new capabilities, it forms the basis for further capabilities in the Transactional applications, Colour enablement and Transpromo solutions arenas.

P/I Output Enhancement v1.0 works with P/I Output Manager to dynamically enhance production printstreams.  As an integrated part of the overall production print process, it provides access to formatting, colourisation, barcode generation and control file creation, as well as the management of relevant messaging.

P/I Output Manager & Output Enhancement are backward compatible with supported versions of the VIP/VDE products.

In accordance with the published Retirement Policy, which states that support will be provided for the current and three preceding releases, support for VIP/VDE v8.6 and earlier will cease with the release of P/I Output Manager v1.0.  Exceptions will be made if you are in transition to a supported version.

BEPS 5.1.27 Released

Barr Systems are pleased to advise that BEPS 5.1.27 has been released, and is now available for general distribution.  This release rolls up all the recent security fixes in the area of Barr/Web access and includes the latest MS redistributables.  Support for Domain Groups is now working as it should via the Web Interface.

Q & A

Q.  I want to zip all the files resulting from my Emtex SPLIT processing.  If I try to use a POSTJOBCOMMAND in the Profile, it executes for every SPLIT.  How can I make it happen only at the end of the job, and when all output processing has concluded?

A.  The trick here is to use a POSTJOBCOMMAND, inserted by the vde script into the profile, only when ENDOFJOB comes true.  In the final vde script Pass, make a call to a REGION object, which has TEST ENDOFJOB.  Create ACTIONs to build a POSTJOBCOMMAND string and put it into the Profile with PROFILEOPTION.  Now this command will only be executed once, after all output has finished.
