Q & A

Q.  How does BEPS integrate with LAN resources?

A.  BEPS must be configured to use a USERNAME and PASSWORD at Service startup, instead of a SYSTEM ACCOUNT.  Regardless of who is logged in at the BEPS PC, it's the BEPS Service Account user who must be granted appropriate rights to read and write to LAN directories, printers etc.

Q.  How should LAN directories be referenced within BEPS?

A.  You should always use a UNC specification for LAN resources, i.e. \\servername\resource.  Mapped drives only apply to logged in users, and may be different for each user.  UNC path names are unambiguous and require no prior mapping to setup.

Q.  How does the Emtex VDE "DETECT WHITESPACE" command work?

A.  You call the DETECT WHITESPACE function from within your VDE script, with parameters for the minimum width and minimum height of whitespace required.  The function returns information about any areas of matching whitespace within the window of interest into array variables, which describe height, width, position and the actual number of areas found.  These can then be extracted for subsequent use in placement of your TransPromo messages etc.
