Emtex Professional Services

Emtex VIP is a print transformation package which transforms one print language to another.  AFP, LCDS/Metacode, PCL, PDF and PS are transformed to one or more of AFP, LCDS/Metacode, PCL, PDF, PS, TIF, IJPDS and XML formats.  With the optional VDE module, documents can be modified, as they are transformed, in many different ways.

Using VDE, documents can be:

  • merged

  • consolidated

  • sorted

  • split

  • bar-coded

  • colourised

  • indexed

  • trans-promo'd via SQL lookup info

  • etc. etc.

VDE is a full object-oriented programming language which allows you to:

  • ADD

  • DELETE

  • INSERT

  • ALIGN

  • MOVE

  • EXTRACT (usable text/data)

  • FORMAT

individual document elements such as TEXT, IMAGES, LOGOs, FONTS and OVERLAYS.

Clearly, this is a very powerful programming tool which allows a print shop to differentiate themselves and offer true "value-add" services.  VDE programmers are always busy, all of the time, and are in great demand!

Where demand exceeds supply, Atac can provide programming expertise with VDE Professional Services on a variety of bases:

  • Fixed-price quotes for jobs ranging from half a day plus

  • Time & Materials for smaller or ad-hoc jobs

  • Monthly (capped) allocations to allow rapid assistance with Proof of Concepts etc.

  • Training in all aspects of VIP and VDE.

Contact Atac for help with your VDE programming needs.

Barr/Web Interface Server

Barr's Enterprise Print Server comprises a User Interface window called the SPOOL window.  The SPOOL window allows you to view printers and documents as well as perform routing and job release/hold tasks.  The SPOOL window runs on the BEPS machine in a single instance (you can't have two SPOOL windows open at once).

While it's possible to Remote Control a Barr PC, this is limited to a single user at a time.  It's therefore not possible to have a workable remote access system into a BEPS PC for multiple users.

Barr have designed the Barr/Web Server with exactly this purpose in mind.  The Web Server runs on a machine with IIS (Internet Information Services) which can be the Barr PC itself.  The Web Server allows simultaneous, multiple user access to one or more BEPS units.  Individual users connect to the Web Server via the Barr/Web Interface.

Barr/Web Interface is a java application that allows users to monitor the printers in their print centre from the comfort of their office, via their browser.  In addition, users can view text in the print files, pause, cancel and redirect print jobs to different printers and reprioritize jobs in the queue based on routing criteria.

The Web Interface is completely customizable, allowing you to view only the specific column headers and printers that you require.  You also have the added security feature of maintaining control over which printers a particular user is able to view from their workstation.

This product is practically essential in any multi-BEPS or multi-site environment, providing quick and easy access to any BEPS unit for control or information purposes.

Contact Atac for more information on the Barr/Web Server.

Print/Channel now standalone

The BARR/PRINT CHANNEL (PCS) module has been completely redesigned and is now a standalone product.  The new Channel Input Port utility is used to receive documents from PCS into the Spool window.  PCS can be installed on the Barr Enterprise Print Server (BEPS) computer or a different computer.

This allows you two options when setting up a PCS machine:.

  • You can install PCS on a PC with BEPS present so PCS feeds BEPS directly and is always able to receive data because BEPS can always store it for later forwarding.  As all files go through BEPS on the PCS machine, an extra layer of redundancy is provided in this "non-stop" configuration by the BEPS RETAIN feature.

  • You can setup a "black box" PCS without BEPS, forwarding immediately to a remote BEPS PC.  In this case, if the link to the remote BEPS is down for some reason, then PCS will stop receiving data from the HOST until such time as it is working again.

Now Barr's standalone Print Channel product can provide an even less expensive alternative for channel extender replacement!  Contact Atac for more information.
