VIRTUAL DOCUMENT ENHANCE (VDE) An Advanced, Real Time, Document Re-engineering Solution Overview VDE (Virtual Document Enhance) is powerful print data-stream manipulation software from Emtex. VDE enables users to modify and enhance business critical print applications together with the ability to generate electronic output. A major advantage of this process is that the existing host-based application programs remain unchanged. VDE controlled changes occur at the end of the document production process thereby providing real 'last-minute' change control that affects all document production. How does VDE Work? Unlike other print stream Re-Engineering tools that perform actions on the actual Print Data Stream (AFPDS, Xerox LCDS, etc.) itself, VDE performs actions on a 'virtual document' (Emtex VDD format). This allows VDE to have complete control over the entire document by "understanding" the relationship between pages, and to be independent of Input and Output print stream formats. Changes to a document are not specific to any input or output print stream, thus, for example, a Xerox LCDS print stream might be input, VDE would perform the actions, and VIP could output the result to AFPDS, IPDS, PS, PDF or other target devices without requiring any change to the VDE script. Actions are also performed Real Time whilst the document is being processed. This significantly improves performance and differs from other solutions which are "batch process" oriented. The unique positioning of VDE within the VIP architecture enables VDE actions to be applied at both job INPUT and/or job OUTPUT processing stages, providing users with unparalleled operational flexibility.
