Barr/Print Channel
Barr’s Print/Channel product helps you to replace expensive channel-attached mainframe printers with remote TCP/IP attached devices of much lower cost. Print/Channel comprises software and a PCI card and cable capable of supporting multiple Bus & Tag or ESCON connections from the host. The Print/Channel software emulates multiple channel attached 3211 or 4245 printers. By necessity Print/Channel must be located close to the mainframe, but the Barr/Spool component can be on a remote workstation. Print/Channel uses a TCP/IP port per connection to forward channel-received data to the Barr/Spool PC, for subsequent printing.
Barr/Spool can then send the print jobs to local or LAN printers, or on to larger, but remote centralised printers. Barr/Spool can translate EBCDIC to ASCII and feed many different print platforms. Transform capabilities can re-purpose virtually any document format to suit the output devices available.
