Barr Prices Rise
For the first time in a long while, Barr Systems Inc. has this month announced modest price rises across its range of Enterprise Output Manager (EOM) and Barr Enterprise Print Server (BEPS) products. Bus & Tag channel equipment pricing now mirrors ESCON for channel-in and channel-out products. This is because the cost of acquiring/producing channel hardware – for those who still want it, has increased since fewer suppliers manufacture it or provide parts.
Channel-in and Print/Channel customers are reminded that there are many HOST-based products which can now send channel data over TCP/IP, eliminating the need for this type of gear. These include IP Printway, LRS’ VPS and CA-SPOOL’s LCDS option.
Print390 (channel-out) customers have the option of moving to Barr’s Print to EPS product which can send Xerox channel data via TCP/IP directly to a Xerox printer via TCP/IP. As Xerox has officially ended support for Bus & Tag printers, this is the preferred (and cheaper) upgrade path.
